It's been a deep winter for me. A deliberate slowing down and long journey inward that's been filled with significant ups and downs. As I've been telling some of my friends, "life has been life-ing," but as the old folks in the church would sometimes say, "I wouldn't take nothing for my journey." What a ride.
One of the high points of last year for me was that I was fortunate enough to receive a publishing deal for my first book! I am so grateful to my writing accountability group - to Dr. Monica White, Dr. Ife Kilimanjaro and Dara Cooper - for literally holding my hand to guiding me through this process. Receiving a publishing contract was a huge mountain to climb, but writing the book is an even greater task. But I am up for the challenge!
More words will come no doubt as I do a bit of traveling this week.
I'm headed to Happy Dirt in North Carolina, Prairie View A&M University in Texas and The Center for Research, Engagement and Collaboration in African American Life at Wake Forest University. Every stop along the way presents an opportunity to connect with old and new friends. I can't wait!
I'll share notes about my experiences and travel here. Stay tuned!
Happy Spring!
Let's keep growing,
Dr. Heber
